SDN 222 Palembang Greet Ride for Orangutan team
Ride for Orangutan (RFO) team was rapturously welcomed by the students of SDN 222 Palembang, South Sumatra (25/4/2013). Teachers and hundreds of elementary school kids cheered and waved their hands to the team as the riders entered the school, which is located above a river.
Despite the inadequate audio-visual facilities, the 3rd and 4th graders enthusiastically watch the film about orangutan. Although they study in an indifferent school, they turn out to be very excited and proactive in following the sessions. They did not hesitate to raise questions and also answer given questions.
This school visit is a part of RFO campaign across Sumatra. The morning before we went to the elementary school, we held a campaign in the heart of Palembang city near the fountain circle just across the grand mosque. The campaign in Palembang was supported by Palembang Slankers community, Tripal (Trail community), Honda Motors Club, and Yamaha Motors Club.
Prior to this, RFO team had held campaigns in Jakarta and Bandar Lampung which involved the participation of various communities like automotive community, outdoor club, and Slankers.all of those campaigns were well responded by the people.
Made Astuti, the spokesperson of ProFauna Indonesia, said "We are very glad to see how enthusiastic the youngsters in Palembang are, to support our program, especially the elementary school kids in SDN 222 Palembang." Made, one of the riders in the team, added "ProFauna believe that education for children in extremely important for the future of wildlife and forest conservation in Indonesia."
