ProFauna Talks Wildlife Trade at Mulawarman University, Samarinda

The chairman of ProFauna Indonesia, Rosek Nursahid, shared his knowledge and experience about wildlife crime with the Forestry students of Mulawarman University, Samarinda, East Borneo on Saturday (23/11/2013). Accompanied by Mr. Rustam Fahmi, one of ProFauna's advisory board members who is also a professor at the university, Rosek explained about the modes and cruelty behind wildlife trade. By displaying ProFauna's investigation pictures and films, Rosek who is also a wildlife crime investigator himself, encouraged the audiences to be more concerned and actively involved in combatting illegal wildlife trade.

A senior wildlife researcher from Mulawarman University, Mr. Chandra Boer, who was present at the occasion, said "Wildlife conservation is the responsibility of everybody, including the scholars." The long-haired gentleman then added, "More intense campaigns are needed to spur the youth of this country to take real actions, because they are more capable of accepting changes compared to the older generation."

In the past few months ProFauna has been visiting campuses to evoke active participation of university students to protect endangered wildlife and their habitats. Later on after the discussion, many of the students expressed their awareness and wanted to join ProFauna in taking real action for wildlife. Rosek said, "Wildlife and habitat conservation must involve all walks of life, with the young generation as the fundamental element in ensuring a better future of our country's nature. I'm feeling very proud to see that now there are many of our youth who cares and want to take part in the protection of wildlife."
