Press Release: ProFauna Protests The Shipment of Moluccan Parrots by Allegedly Corrupt Army Officers

(09/25/2012) ProFauna Indonesia condemns the policy of the Natural Resources Conservation Center of the Forestry Department (known and abbreviated as BKSDA) in Ternate, the capital of North Maluku, Eastern Indonesia for issuing a permit letter to transport protected parrots to some officers of the Indonesian National Armed Force (known and abbreviated as TNI).

ProFauna Trains Bali Police Officers on Wildlife Law Enforcement

ProFauna Bali working together with Yayasan Manikaya Kauci (a local foundation) provided Bali Police Officers on wildlife law enforcement training on 19 September 2012 in Denpasar, Bali.

MNC TV Promises Not to Use a Protected Wildlife in Their Program

MNC, the parent company of several national televisions such as Global TV, RCTI, and MNC TV, promises not use a protected wildlife in their programs or shows. The official statement was expressed during a meeting with ProFauna Indonesia and other NGOs on 11th September 2012 at the office in Jakarta. Previously on 8th July 2012, ProFauna Indonesia and the other NGOs reported the company for allegedly abuse of a slow loris in the series named Aladin aired in MNC TV.

ProFauna Invites The Public Not to Consume Wildlife Meat

During the campaign by a well-known shopping center in Malang - East Java on 8 August 2012, ProFauna Indonesia's activists invited the public not to consume wildlife meat because the consumption would lead to wildlife extinction in the wild. The campaign was delivered through a unique campaign where some activists sat behind a table with primate-head-like stuffed dolls lying on.

The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission Demands Television Stations Not to Air Wildlife Exploitation Shows

Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia (KPI) akhirnya mengeluarkan surat himbauan ke semua stasiun TV agar tidak menayangkan program siaran yang mengeksploitasi satwa. Dalam surat KPI nomor 455/K/KPI/07/12 yang ditandatangani oleh Ketua Mochamad Riyanto itu KPI berharap stasiun TV mematuhi peraturan perundangan yang melindungi satwa yaitu UU nomor 5 tahun 1990 tentang Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya. Dalam peraturan tersebut disebutkan bahwa pemanfaatan satwa dilindungi untuk tujuan komersil adalah dilarang.
