ProFauna Indonesia Receives Daun to Earth Awards 2012

ProFauna's Indonesia continued works to save wildlife and their habitats have been appreciated by a group of Surabaya and Yogyakarta artists during the presentation of 'Daun to Earth Awards 2012' (Daun is the Indonesian word for leaf) to the organisation. The environment award presentation held on 26 February 2012 was intended to encourage environmental activists to work more.

Rully Anwar, the Art Project Manager of the ceremony stated, "By holding this award presentation, we want to raise public awareness to get involve with the award recipients or the environmental activists". Anwar added, "Many people have discussed and talked about environment but done nothing".

The awards were presented by the Deputy Governor of East Java Province, Syaifullah Yusuf. Among the recipients was Rosek Nursahid, Chairman of ProFauna Indonesia. In the ceremony which was attended by the Surabaya Mayor, Tri Rismaharini, ProFauna Indonesia was represented by Coordinator of ProFauna Supporter - Chapter Sidoarjo, Muhammad Zamroni because Nursahid was in Bali to hold campaign against the sea turtle shell souvenirs in Bali on the same day.

Rosek Nursahid stated, "ProFauna Indonesia and I are very honoured to receive the award. We hope that this can encourage more people to take action to save wildlife and their habitats in Indonesia." Nursahid who co-founded the organisation in 1994 added, "I consider this award to be presented to all ProFauna Supporter (ProFauna's volunteers) all over Indonesia and over seas for their support and dedication to ProFauna".
