ProFauna and P-WEC Conduct School and University Visits to Promote Nature Conservation

Lisa Hall, a ProFauna volunteer from United KingdomA team of ProFauna Indonesia and its education center called Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC) visited some schools and universities in Malang, East Java to introduce and promote nature conservation to the young generation. In the visits held from March to April 2012, the team had been helped by Lisa Hall, a ProFauna volunteer from United Kingdom. Miss Hall and the team delivered some games, played conservation films and held discussions in the visits.

The visited educational institutions included elementary schools (for 7 to 12 year old students), junior high schools (for 13 to 15 year old students), language courses, and universities. The visits were welcomed by the students. They loved the attendance of Miss Hall who was very friendly in approaching them. The topic of the activities covered about forest and wildlife conservation as well as global warming. The students were enthusiast in following the discussions as one of them raised a good question, "Why forests as supporting ecology are converted into plantation?"

Apart from the educational institutions in Malang City, ProFauna and P-WEC team plan to visit other cities in East Java. In the upcoming program, the team will visit Sidoarjo City. The agenda has received positive feedback from the schools in the city which is next to Surabaya City as many schools sent their request to be visited by the team.
