All Out Education of Wildlife Conservation

All Out Education of Wildlife ConservationAmong its main activities like survey of the wildlife trade, animal rescue, campaign, advocacy, and law enforcement of wildlife and forest protection; ProFauna's education programme has been designed to raise awareness of the public: from kindergarten children to law enforcement officers; from those who live in big cities or rural areas by the forests to rangers in the forests themselves.

From the beginning of 2011 until now, ProFauna has visited schools in Jakarta in West Java and Malang in East Java to educate the children about tiger conservation, and also schools in Maluku for parrot protection. Apart from the education for the conservation of the endangered species, ProFauna has come to several schools and communities in remote villages by the forests in East Java encouraging the villagers to keep and protect the forests and wildlife as their natural resources. In these series of activities, ProFauna plays conservation movies, holds games and quizzes, and distributes free stickers and calendars to make sure that the audiences have fun while they learn about forest and wildlife conservation.

All Out Education of Wildlife ConservationProFauna also reaches specific communities working on the field like the enforcement officers: forest rangers and village task force "officers". Education for the first team was held last 24-25 February 2011 while conducting regular patrol to protect the forest and wildlife in one of the national parks in East Java. The forestry rangers were excited to learn more about wildlife protection from ProFauna during the security routine because before the organisation's involvement, they would only monitors for illegal loggers and they were lack of knowledge and identification of the protected species. For the latter, the "officers" were some of the villagers living by the forests who have been selected by ProFauna and village authorities to join the team to enforce village regulation of wildlife protection.

The workshop held on 19 February 2011 was intended to strengthen the selected team members of the villagers to protect their environment adjacent to forests from hunters and loggers who apparently are outsiders.
