ProFauna Receives a RSPCA International Award

Rosek Nursahid (Chairman of ProFauna Indonesia), Receives a RSPCA international awardProFauna's work for the past 15 years in revealing the illegal wildlife trade and exploitation has been granted an award by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), an international animal organization based in RSPCA. RSPCA, the oldest animal organization and one of the largest animal organizations in the world, awarded ProFauna a Special Investigation Award last 11 September 2010, in RSPCA's headquarters in Horsham, West Sussex, United Kingdom.

ProFauna was the only award recipient from overseas. The rest recipients were 20 individuals and institutions for different categories. ProFauna was given the honorable recognition for the on-going investigation and its campaigns against the wildlife crime since 1994. Some important findings that have been successfully uncovered by ProFauna's investigation team include the parrot trade in Maluku, the sea turtle trade in Bali, the tiger trade in Sumatera, and the orangutan trade in Jakarta.

Since 2000, ProFauna has campaigned actively for the protection of parrots in Maluku Island. The campaigns followed the investigations to the illegal parrot trade written in "Flying Without Wings" and "Pirated Parrots" reports. The two reports are complemented with film documentations.

ProFauna's founder and chairman, Rosek Nursahid, who received the award himself in RSPCA stated, "ProFauna works for the protection of wildlife and nature of Indonesia sincerely. However, ProFauna is honored to receive an award from such internationally notable organization like RSPCA". He added that the award was not only for himself, but for all parties supporting ProFauna's work including the staff members, supporters or local volunteers.
