Forest Farmer Cry Receiving Tree Seedling Donation
Forest farmer Sugianto shed tears when representing forest farmers to receive 500 tree seedlings from BRI Life, an insurance company, and PROFAUNA Indonesia on Tuesday (28/11/2023). The donation of fruit tree seedlings such as mango, soursop, and jackfruit is expected to restore forests that were deforested due to illegal logging in the Southern Malang region.
"I would like to thank BRI Life and PROFAUNA for the second time for helping us. the forest farmers in Southern Malang. This assistance is very valuable and makes us even more enthusiastic to restore the forest," said Sugianto while shedding tears.
Other forest farmers who were present at the handover of tree seedlings also showed their excitement. By bringing motorcycles that had been modified to transport crops from the forest, they brought tree seedlings to be planted in the forest area.
Chief of the Maju Mapan Forest Farmer Group (KTH), Mochammad Firman who was present at the handover of tree seedlings said, "Thank you to PROFAUNA Indonesia who has assisted us since 2018 in managing social forestry"
Maju Mapan Forest Farmer Group has obtained a forest utilization area of 289 hectares through a social forestry scheme from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry since 2018. The forest is located in the Forestry Management Office working area in Tambakrejo Village, Sumbermanjing Wetan District, Malang Regency.
In addition to helping with tree seedlings, BRI Life also helped fund the construction of wells in the social forestry area of Maju Mapan group. These wells are very important, because in this area in case of the dry season it is difficult to water the plants.
"PROFAUNA Indonesia and forest farmers would like to express their appreciation to BRI Life for the second time partnering with PROFAUNA to help forest farmers in southern Malang. This is a tangible step to help improve the economy of village communities that manage forests, as well as have an impact on the preservation of the forest itself," said Rosek Nursahid, founder of PROFAUNA Indonesia who was also present at the handover ceremony.
