Biology Students of Brawijaya University Visit Perancak Beach
A group of biology students of Brawijaya University held a study tour by visiting the sea turtle conservation center on Perancak Beach, Bali on 5th December 2012. Consisting of 40 students, the group learned about the management of the sea turtle conservation on the Beach run by a local community called 'Kurma Asih' working together with ProFauna Bali. The students had fun learning about the programme especially during the release of the sea turtle babies. It was the first experience for most students to see sea turtle babies in the wild.
The students from a well-known university in Malang City, East Java, also had discussion about sea turtle conservation in general with ProFauna Bali and the local community. Some of them expressed their interests to do some research on sea turtle. During the visit, ProFauna gave posters of introduction to wildlife species to the students.
ProFauna Indonesia gives opportunities to university students who want to learn about sea turtle conservation by visiting the conservation center on the beach or becoming a volunteer to help the programme. Perancak Beach is known as the main nesting site of sea turtle in Bali Island. The peak season of the nesting sea turtles is between April and September.
