Wildlife Dealer to Spend 13 Months in Jail

MADIUN - Three men found guilty of selling protected wildlife species, Darmaji, Bambang Satriyo Ariyadi, and Suharyadi will have to miss the Idul Fitri away from home. Panel of judges in Madiun District Court just sentenced them 13 months in prison and IDR 3 million fines, subsidiary of 1 month in prison.

The sentence given by panel of judges lead by Endang Sri G. was not far different from the prosecutor's charge. "The defendant was found guilty, and has violated article 40 of Law no.5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Living Natural Resource and Its Ecosystem," claimed Endang yesterday (2 July 2015).

From the dealers, the police seized a stuffed tiger, 1 set of tiger skin, 1 skin of tiger head, 2 tiger skulls, 1 stuffed deer head, and 1 stuffed hawksbill sea turtle. These evidence have been handed over to the Natural Resource Conservation Agency Region

The prosecutor, Sulistyo, added that these three men had undergone their prison term since 12 February 2015, means that they would only have to spend another 9 months in prison. "If they can pay the fines, they just have to stay in prison for another 9 months. But if they fail to pay the fines, they will have 1 month added to the term." The defendants did not file any exception to the charge.
