PROFAUNA and the P-WEC Provide Hundreds of Ficus Tree Seedlings to Local Communities
PROFAUNA Indonesia and the P-WEC Educational Forest provided hundreds of tree seedlings to forest farmers in Malang Regency, East Java. The tree seedlings comprised two groups: fruit trees and banyan trees (Ficus spp.).
The fruit trees distributed to the forest farmers included durian, mango, jackfruit, and breadfruit. These trees were distributed to the Bulu Wongso forest farmer group in South Malang. The 450 seedlings were distributed directly to the forest farmer group administrators at the P-WEC Educational Forest on October 29, 2025.
Ficus trees were also distributed to the community in Ngantang, Malang Regency. A total of 50 Ficus tree seedlings were collected by community representatives on November 6, 2025.
"PROFAUNA is strongly committed to supporting forest rehabilitation carried out independently by local communities. One form of our support is by providing tree seedlings," said Rosek Nursahid, Founder of PROFAUNA Indonesia.
PROFAUNA has long been assisting local communities to restore damaged forests through social forestry programs. PROFAUNA assists several forest farmer groups that have received approval from the Ministry of Forestry to implement social forestry programs.
PROFAUNA believes that involving local communities in forest management will be one solution to forest conservation in Indonesia. Local communities are not merely spectators, but active actors in forest management.
