Customary Institution of Wehea Nehas Liah Bing Partners with PROFAUNA to Protect Wehea Forest in East Borneo

Hutan lindung WeheaThe customary institution of Wehea Nehas Liah Bing just signed a partnership agreement with between them and Protection of Forest & Fauna (PROFAUNA ) Indonesia in a forest protection program in East Borneo. According to the agreement, PROFAUNA would provide assistance for the customary institution and their local ranger team called the "Petkuq Mehuey" (PM) in their effort to preserve the Wehea protection forest.

"It is a great privilege for PROFAUNA to be trusted by the Wehea people, so that we could work hand in hand to protect Wehea forest," said Bayu sandi, the coordinator of PROFAUNA Borneo.

Wehea protection forest is one of the last remaining natural forests in East Borneo. The 83,000-hectares area is home to at least 61 mammals species. The chief of Nehas Liah Bing village, Ledjie Taq, added "We are glad that finally we can team up iwth PROFAUNA, and hope that this partnership will do good for the forest."

Related to the newly signed agreement, Bayu Sandi stated "This is a big leap for everybody, and it has been PROFAUNA's policy to support local people in conserving their environment."
